HOUSING
Residential Experience:
We are pleased to announce that SCIBLS students will have the opportunity to live in the newly renovated Honors Village located in Berry, Becton, and Bagwell (the Quad) residence halls on East Campus. The Honors Village will be home to all academic summer programs for high school students and undergraduates.
Located nearby are Clark Dining Hall, Thompson Theater, and Pullen Park. The new Honors Village Commons building contains a twenty-four hour service desk, a convenience store, computer lab, and student activity spaces. Additionally, the Honors Program Office, located in Clark Hall, offers a student lounge, mini computer lab, and small library where students can find a quiet place to study. The Campus Cinema, a short walk from Honors Village, is open on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
Resident Assistants designated to the SCIBLS program will supervise SCIBLS students. The staff student ratio will be kept as small as possible. Resident Assistants will supervise evening and weekend activities and assist students with homework if necessary.
WeekendsActivities will be planned for Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening with supervision by Resident Assistants. Typical activities will be Adventure Landing in Raleigh (go-karts, laser tag, etc.), local movie theaters and malls, a Durham Bulls minor league baseball game, and other activities arranged with input from the students. Transportation will be provided in State Motor Pool 7 passenger vans for short trips, and with a State Motor Pool bus and driver for large group trips.
Plenty of time to Hang OutThe pace of SCIBLS is extremely intense academically. We have limited the number of organized activities on weeknights to allow for homework and hanging out with fellow students on campus. Hillsborough Street has coffee shops and Cameron Village is a short walk from East Campus where shopping and fast food dining can be found. The residential aspect of SCIBLS affords students a great opportunity to lean how to balance studies and social activities, a necessary skill for college life.
